This Moment in America is Testing Us

Some days, it feels like the world is shifting beneath our feet. We’re living through a period of change unlike anything most of us have ever experienced, and it’s natural to feel overwhelmed or uncertain about what comes next.
But standing here on this sunny Florida beach, I’m reminded of something simple and grounding: no matter how strong the winds get, the horizon is still out there. The tide still comes in. The sun still rises. And so do we.
This moment in America is testing us — but it’s also revealing our strength, our resilience, and our capacity to look out for one another. We’ve weathered hard chapters before and come through them by choosing courage over fear and community over chaos.
Our founders faced a world of uncertainty too. Against all odds, they built a new form of government that has guided and inspired people for nearly 250 years. Its endurance has always depended on ordinary individuals choosing integrity, compassion, and responsibility — not just in grand moments, but in everyday life.
So set aside the noise when you can. Step back from the daily barrage of anger, misinformation, and greed. Focus on what truly matters. For me, that means remembering that a higher power will judge each of us by how we treated others — not just by our actions, but by the moments when we chose to help, to listen, or to stand up for what’s right.
If you’re feeling the weight of it all, take a breath. Step outside. Look toward your own horizon. You are not alone, and you are stronger than you think.
Better days aren’t behind us — they’re ahead of us, and we’ll reach them together.
Be well,
Lou Assaro
