Good Judgment | Independent Thinking Required
West Virginia needs representatives in Charleston that will call balls and strikes as they see them, and offer solutions that are in short supply these days.
Do we really need a GOP that takes money from our public schools and redirects it to private education?
How about the WV legislature’s attempt earlier this year to weaken Freedom of Information Act Requests (WV House Bill 3412)? Yea — there’s transparency for you.
And then there is making it as difficult as possible for medical care providers to take care of their pregnant patients without fear of jail or the state dragging them into court (Unborn Child Protection Act, signed into law in West Virginia in 2022, with additional restrictions in 2025).
But the GOP doesn’t have a monopoly on bad ideas. Obamacare (The Affordable Care Act), did that really help middle class Americans? Not really, as many didn’t qualify for those hefty Government subsidies. How about thinking out of the box and actually giving the middle class a fighting chance. Healthcare is sort of like our department of highways; some things individuals just can’t do on their own. Government does have a role in providing a functioning society.
How about a car, pickup truck — basic transportation that is affordable? The Government surely could work with private industry to have a form of basic transportation that is affordable and NOT designed for costly repairs. Look at all the electronic crap loaded into even entry level automotive transportation. This gee whiz stuff doesn’t mean much if a person cannot afford to buy a car.
These are the things average Americans want solved, and they have been deeply disappointed.
Our politic has devolved into a toxic brew. Red vs. Blue, Right vs. Left, major decisions made by the public are often done on impulse in less than 5 seconds based on this hyper polarization. But it is much worse folks. Our Democratic Republic requires a common baseline for facts. Misinformation and outright propaganda must be called out by our leaders, and this includes our legislators. Happy about the 20-billion-dollar bailout for Argentina with United States taxpayer money? Have any idea what 20 billion dollars would do for West Virginia? Not a squeak from West Virginia’s GOP leadership.
Propaganda thrives when good people stay quiet. If you believe West Virginia deserves leaders who speak truth to power, follow our campaign. West Virginia has an opportunity to change things in 2026. You’ll have a choice in District 69. I’m Lou Assaro, and I’m running for the West Virginia House of Delegates.
